What are some different careers?
Doctor, teacher, engineer, bus driver, waitress, nurse, fire fighter, accountant, physical therapist, psychiatrist, chef, journalist... the list goes on! What jobs do you need a diploma for? Most jobs you will want some school after high school. For example, being a doctor takes college and school after college. Teacher requires at least a college degree. Nurse requires a nursing degree. Mechanic and others might require a two-year degree program. What will I need to take for a major in art? It depends on what kind of art! You will probably have to take some general college classes like English, and then lots of the art classes you want--like sculpture, or drawing. Do I have a choice between skipping college or going to college? You definitely have a choice. You could go to a 2-year college, 4-year college, even more years of graduate (after college), or none at all. It depends on what career you are interested in! How many years of college do I need to become a vet? Usually you need to go to a 4-year college and then do vet school afterwards, which is around 4 more years, depending on the program. How many years does it take to be a CNA? What tests do I take? It depends on the school you go to--it could be only 2 years. You take some classes at a college (which might mean a couple tests), and then one test which certifies you to be a CNA. (Not too bad--all classes and careers will require a bit of testing!) What will I need to study to be a paleontologist? You'll want to study some math and science in high school, then biology and geology in college. (And a little math and physics too.) Then after school you can study paleontology specifically! Will I need a specific vet school in order to be a vet? There are lots of vet schools in the US, and you can apply to several. They are graduate (after college) degrees. Would I need to read a bunch of books to become a doctor? In college and medical school there is definitely plenty of reading, mostly from books about biology, chemistry, and medicine. So hopefully they will be books you enjoy! How do I decide which college to attend? You should consider things like: how far away from home, how many students study at the college, how much will it cost (or can you get a scholarship), what kind of classes and professors are there, and what kind of clubs are offered. Then you apply to several colleges and see where you get in! In college do I have to stay in a dormitory? It depends on what college you attend. If you are near home, you could probably live at home if you wanted to. Most schools want students to live on campus one or two years (if you don't live nearby), but you might be able to live in an apartment or something if you want too! How long will it take to get my diploma? It depends on what kind of diploma! Most college diplomas take 4 years. Some take 2, and some take more than 4. Do I have to do hard math in college? Only if you want to! You might have to take 1 math class, but after that you only have to do math if that is what you want to study.
