How do you get into college?
Colleges tend to look at your transcript, which is a record of the grades you got in your high school classes. In addition, most colleges have some kind of application that you have to complete in order to get in. The application asks you some general questions, and usually requires an essay, as well. The essay is an opportunity for you to let college admissions officers to learn what is important to you. You can write about almost anything! Some colleges have additional essay questions, like “Why do you want to go to school here?” or “What are you interested in studying?” Some colleges require that you interview with an admissions officer. Interviews are pretty casual conversations, just a chance for the admissions officer to meet you in person and get to know you. -Julianna
How many classes are there?
It depends on the college. Most college students take four classes per semester (there are two semesters per school year). But some colleges require that students take five. Your schedule can be flexible, so you might end up taking more or fewer in a given semester. -Julianna
Are there teacher classes at a college on a beach in Maine?
I don’t know if there is a school right on a beach in Maine, but Bowdoin comes pretty close! Bowdoin has a great Education department, which offers lots of classes for people who want to become teachers. For example, there is a class called Science Education that is helpful for students interested in becoming science teachers. There is also a class that deals more with the government policy side of education, like how the laws surrounding schools are made. And Bowdoin is not right on the beach, but it is on the coast of Maine so there are plenty of beaches nearby! -Julianna
